Huawei Music claims 160m monthly users, as it launches in Europe | Music Ally

Back in November 2018, we wrote about Chinese technology firm Huawei’s claim that its Huawei Music streaming service had 100 million monthly active users – a surprise to many people in the west who hadn’t been following its growth. Since then, Huawei has become one of the more controversial tech companies in the world thanks to scrutiny in the west on security grounds. However, its music service has carried on growing: according to Huawei’s latest press release, it now has 160 million monthly active users. That press release is for the European launch of the service, via the AppGallery store built in to Huawei’s own products.

The streaming service has a catalogue of more than 50m tracks, and is now live in 16 European countries including the UK, Germany, France and Spain.

Huawai noted that it has licensing deals with all three major labels, and stressed the focus on owners of Huawei’s range of smartphones, tablets and audio products. After a three-month free trial, users will be prompted to pay €9.99 a month for a subscription.
