Hips my Life: Hipgnosis buys catalogue of Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora | Music Ally

Richie Sambora is best known as the guitarist in Bon Jovi and co-writer of some of their biggest hits (such as ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’, ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’ and ‘It’s My Life’) which, three decades on from their release, still do decent business on streaming services. Those three songs along have combined streams of more than 1.2bn.

Now the world’s keenest catalogue shopper, Hipgnosis Songs Fund, has snapped up 186 of Sambora’s compositions and co-writes for its rapidly expanding collection.

Besides all his writing credits on Bon Jovi’s 12 studio albums, the deal also covers Sambora’s three solo albums (although his most popular solo tracks (‘Father Time’, ‘Hard Times Come Easy’ and ‘In It For Love’ have barely passed 1m streams each on Spotify.)

Financial terms of the Sambora acquisition were not made pubic, but Billboard notes that Hipgnosis now has a full or partial stake in 42 different catalogues (totalling 11,225 songs) and has spent over $500m investing in them.
