Def Jam to launch fictional podcast featuring real artists | Music Ally

UMG’s Def Jam Recordings is teaming up with iHeartMedia and podcasting firm Double Elvis Productions for a new show that will feature emerging artists from the label.

Here Comes the Break‘ is more interesting than just a showcase though: it’s a “serialised hip-hip music breaking podcast… that fuses a fictional scripted narrative with real artist interviews and exclusive music releases”.

Count us intrigued. The 10-episode podcast won’t be out until early 2021, with its main character being a teenage hip-hop fan Ruben who starts his own podcast. Cue interviews with new Def Jam artists, including premieres of new tracks.

The label is in good hands with its production partner too: Double Elvis was the company behind the popular ‘Disgraceland’ podcast.

Although iHeartMedia is also a partner, the new show won’t be exclusive to its iHeartRadio service: Def Jam said the show will also be available “everywhere else podcasts are heard”.
