Artist Russ reveals his weekly streaming royalties | Music Ally

“In the entire existence [of Spotify] I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single artist saying ‘I’m happy with all the money I’m getting from streaming,” Daniel Ek told us in July, in an interview that sparked a rumpus royale on social media.

He might be pleased to see this tweet from American rapper Russ, then. “Some weekly checks on tunecore..inspo purposes only,” wrote Russ, sharing screenshots showing weekly royalties of $89.7k and $107.4k.

Russ didn’t praise streaming specifically, but he did deliver a message about independence to his peers.

“Artists : own your music and stop letting these labels take 15% distribution fees for pressing an upload button.”

Spotify’s public stats show that Russ currently has 13.2 million monthly listeners on the service, making him its 281st most popular artist at the time of writing.
