Apple Music’s new Gen-Z playlists include ‘Viral Hits’ | Music Ally

Show this story to your nearest Grumpy Old Man Of Music and watch him explode: Apple Music has a new playlist devoted to tracks blowing up on TikTok.

Well, that’s not quite how the company puts it, but… “Social media hasn’t just changed how we communicate, but also what we listen to and how we hear it,” explains the blurb for the ‘Viral Hits‘ playlist. “With that, here’s our up-to-the-minute playlist of tracks making the leap from your social channels into the broader cultural stream.”

TikTok virality does translate into streaming spikes, as people go hunting for tracks they’ve heard on the short-video app. It’s interesting to see Apple Music taking the next step and curating based on that.

TechCrunch has the full story: ‘Viral Hits’ is one of 10 new playlists on the service targeting Gen-Z, many of which are deliberately cross-genre collections.
