Danger Mouse and Nigel Godrich launch Station Rotation app | Music Ally

Between them, Danger Mouse and Nigel Godrich have well-earned reputations for their musical and production skills. How will they fare as app entrepreneurs though?

We’re going to find out: the pair have teamed up to launch an iPhone app called Station Rotation, and it’s focused on music.

“Radio stations made and updated by a musical community who want to share music – an alternative to music chosen by an algorithm,” as its App Store listing puts it. “Everyone hears the same songs at the same time – it’s not a playlist…but a collective experience like radio.”

Godrich added more context in a tweet when the app launched on 22 September: “It’s not a commercial enterprise, just something that started between us and are now opening up for anyone who wants to listen.”

The music? That’s coming from Spotify: users connect their account the first time they start Station Rotation. It’s a rapprochement of sorts since the days (in 2013) when Godrich’s band with Thom Yorke, Atoms For Peace, pulled its music from Spotify.

The curators for Station Rotation already include Beck, Haim, Jonny Greenwood, Michael Kiwanuka, Warpaint and Four Tet.
