Amazon Music adds podcasts in the UK, US, Germany and Japan | Music Ally

Amazon Music is the latest music streaming service to dive into podcasts, initially in its four big markets: the UK, US, Germany and Japan.

That means a catalogue of shows akin to other platforms, but there will also be some exclusives, and an interesting tie-in with Amazon’s video subsidiary Twitch.

The exclusives will include ‘music-meets-true-crime’ podcast Disgraceland, which will only be available on Amazon Music from February 2021.

Amazon is also commissioning some original shows including ‘The First One’ with DJ Khaled; a show from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s production firm; and ‘En la Sala’ with Becky G. The latter is the one with a Twitch angle: the show will be broadcast on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel in video form, as well as its audio recordings.

Amazon was already in the podcasts game through its Audible audiobooks service, which also commissions original shows. It’ll be interesting to see how the two intersect: until now, some of Audible’s shows have made their way to other streaming and podcast services after a period of exclusivity.
