More than 2m people watched The Weeknd’s TikTok concert | Music Ally

The Weeknd teamed up with TikTok and VR startup Wave for a live concert last weekend, and it seems to have been a big success.

TikTok said that ‘The Weeknd Experience’ notched up more than 2m total views over its showings between 7-10 August, with as many as 275,000 concurrent viewers at its peak. Meanwhile, the accompanying #TheWeekndEXP hashtag has so far seen more than 1.6bn video views on TikTok.

Note, the concert is now being taken to other platforms: at 3pm ET today (13 August) a “Director’s Cut” will be broadcast on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter as a livestream (to clarify: a rebroadcast of the concert, but people will be watching it at the same time together).

The TikTok broadcasts came with an accompanying ‘Weeknd x TikTok’ collection of limited-edition merch, which has raised $350k for the Equal Justice Initiative charity.

And, in separate ‘The Weeknd is a thoroughly good egg’ news, he’s donated $300k to Global Aid for Lebanon, following the recent explosion in Beirut.
