Nigerian artist Mr Eazi has been working to support emerging musicians in Africa for a while now, through his emPawa Africa program, complete with a partnership with YouTube.
Now he’s developing his plans with a $20m initiative called the Africa Music Fund. CNN has the story, reporting on Mr Eazi’s ambition to invest in African artists using predictions of their future streaming revenues.
There’s also a new music distribution platform as part of this, called Cinch Distro, which is a partnership between emPawa Africa and Vydia.
“The way it works is that they register on the platform and make their music. It has an AI-based tech that will filter their possible revenue based on the number of streams they get on the platform alongside a couple of other metrics,” he said.
“The artists basically use the platform to distribute their music and we monitor their progress. That way we can make data-backed decisions about who to invest in.”
