Apple Music’s new ‘INDIY’ playlist focuses on DIY artists | Music Ally

Our first response to Apple Music’s new playlist ‘INDIY‘ is wondering how to pronounce it: is it ‘indie’ or ‘indie-why’ or ‘in-D-I-Y’? Whatever: its focus is on independent artists who, for the most part, are self-producing and self-releasing their music. It’s also mining a particular musical landscape: “the dissolution of borders between indie and R&B” – something we’ve also seen prove popular on playlists like ‘Lorem’ on Spotify.

Hotly-tipped Brits Beabadoobee and Alfie Templeman are among the artists included in this week’s ‘INDIY’ playlist. Apple also has some activity around the new playlist working the ‘self-produced’ angle: two other featured artists, Marie Dahlstrom and Bamily, have posted Instagram videos (here and here) showing how they work with Apple’s Logic software, which is currently being promoted with a 90-day free trial.
