Two new playlists on Amazon Music and Apple Music are focusing on Black British music.
Amazon’s is called ‘+44’ (the UK country dialling code, if you’re wondering) and will cover rap, R&B, grime, drill and Afrobeats music.
Alongside the playlist there’s an Instagram account which Amazon says will be publishing “performance-led pieces, quick-fire interviews and artist-led stories” – the latest example of off-platform life for a streaming playlist.
Apple Music’s new playlist is called ‘Wxved’ and looks to be covering similar territory: rap, drill, Afrobashment and more, with a UK focus under the banner of ‘alternative rap’.
The official launch is today, with playlist-cover stars D-Block Europe apparently the most streamed group on Apple Music in the UK so far this year.
