ASCAP launches paid internship program for Black students | Music Ally

US collecting society ASCAP has launched a new paid internship program for students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Five students will work for ASCAP (remotely) during July and August, with plans to repeat the scheme every summer in future years. “We have a responsibility to seek to nurture talent and empower the next generation of Black leaders in the music business, just as we do on the creative side,” said ASCAPs SVP, rhythm & soul Nicole George-Middleton.

The scheme will initially include Howard University in Washington; Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta; Morehouse College in Atlanta; and Bennett College in Greensboro. The application process is open until next Monday (29 June).
