Amazon to begin testing its staff for Covid-19 infection | Music Ally

Amazon has announced that it will begin testing some of its ‘frontline’ workers for Covid-19, even if they are not showing any symptoms.

“Regular testing on a global scale, across all industries, would both help keep people safe and help get the economy back up and running,” wrote CEO Jeff Bezos in his annual letter to shareholders. “We’ve begun the work of building incremental testing capacity. A team of Amazonians —from research scientists and program managers to procurement specialists and software engineers — moved from their normal day jobs onto a dedicated team to work on this initiative. We have begun assembling the equipment we need to build our first lab and hope to start testing small numbers of our frontline employees soon. We are not sure how far we will get in the relevant timeframe, but we think it’s worth trying, and we stand ready to share anything we learn.”

Watch this closely: clearly it’s the biggest companies that have the ability to build their own testing facilities, but as the lockdown eases later this year and more employees return to work, it would not be a surprise to see other big companies (including those in and around the music industry) to mull their options on testing.
