Spring and summer music events getting cancelled is now expected, rather than a surprise, but for Europeans yesterday still managed to deliver something of a hammer blow with the cancellation of the 2020 editions of both the Glastonbury Festival and the Eurovision Song Contest. By now, neither is news, so the aspect we’ll pull out is the policies both are adopting in terms of what and how to roll over to 2021.
In Glastonbury’s case, people who’ve paid a £50 deposit to secure a ticket can roll that over to next year, guaranteeing them the opportunity to buy a ticket for Glastonbury 2021. They can also choose to get a refund.
In Eurovision’s case, the event will be held in Rotterdam in 2021, but the big question is whether the artists already selected for this year’s contest will be able to perform their tracks at next year’s event. Despite speculation that artists will be allowed but they’ll need new songs, the official line is that “this is to be discussed with the Reference Group and the participating broadcasters and a decision will be communicated later”.
