This week’s encouraging news about pharmaceutical company Pfizer’s work on a Covid-19 vaccine has renewed talk about how and when the live music industry will be able to come back at scale in the west.
Billboard has an interesting piece on Ticketmaster’s plans, which will involve fans proving either that they have been vaccinated, or that they have tested negative for Covid-19 within the last 72 hours, before they can attend a concert.
The plan, which would also involve Ticketmaster’s mobile app, is described as a way for fans to be cleared without having to be tested at the concert itself. “We’re already seeing many third-party health care providers prepare to handle the vetting – whether that is getting a vaccine, taking a test, or other methods of review and approval – which could then be linked via a digital ticket so everyone entering the event is verified,” said Ticketmaster president Mark Yovich.
The stakes are high for Ticketmaster and its parent company: Live Nation was one of several live companies to see a share-price spike after Pfizer’s news earlier this week.
