Spotify Survey Points To Separate Podcast Subscriptions That Artists, Labels Will Not Profit From | Hypebot

Spotify Survey Points To Separate Paid Podcast Subscription

Spotify is exploring a separate podcast subscription rather than – or perhaps in addition to – raising its standard monthly subscriptions.

The move also means that Spotify can derive revenue from users of Apple Music and other streaming services as well as additional revenue from existing Spotify subscribers.

Unlike current subscriptions, revenue from a separate podcast subscription is unlikely to be shared with artists and record labels.

Spotify has already surveyed some users about a “podcast streaming service” with possible prices “for these stand-alone services only and that the price of the music streaming service is not included in these offers”.

One proposed tier was between $2.99 and $4.99 a month, while another explored a $4.99 to $7.99 tier with exclusive extra or extended episodes; early access to new episodes. Ads were also an option.
