Artist Kid Cudi is turning startup entrepreneur for a new app called Encore, which is being pitched as a “mobile-first live music experience”.
What’s that? An app for artists to post music, chat to fans, host live shows and collaborate with one another. Kid Cudi is a co-founder alongside film director Ian Edelman and tech exec Jonathan Gray, and the artist will hold a role as Encore’s chief creative officer.
Encore already has some funding to build the app: it quietly raised $2m earlier this year in a round led by VC firm Battery Ventures. The app itself is currently in private beta, although artists and fans can enter their email addresses on its website to sign up for early access.
