Baby Shark beats Despacito for most lifetime views on YouTube | Music Ally

There’s been a changing of the guard at the top of YouTube’s lifetime views chart. Sorry, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, but you’ve been outgunned by ‘Baby Shark’.

The official video for the world’s toothiest earworm now has 7.05bn views on YouTube, overtaking the 7.04bn for ‘Despacito’. That said, this isn’t a bitter rivalry: Fonsi gamely featured on a new version of ‘Baby Shark’ earlier this summer – a video that has since been watched 106.6m times in its own right.

The song has helped the channel that published it originally, Pinkfong! Kids’ Songs & Stories, grow to 40.3m subscribers and 18.5bn video views. Seven of the channel’s top 10 videos are variants on ‘Baby Shark’, so you can’t accuse it of missing the opportunity.

Meanwhile, four of YouTube’s top 10 videos ever are now children’s vids: the likes of Baby Shark, Masha and the Bear and LooLoo Kids are rubbing shoulders with Ed Sheeran, Wiz Khalifa and Psy in the rankings.
