Audio streaming service Mixcloud launched a livestreaming feature in April this year, enabling people to stream live audio or video on its platform. Today, it’s announcing an expansion of ‘Mixcloud Live’ to add ticketing. Several artists will be testing the new feature out, including Flying Lotus, Róisín Murphy and Nas (who recently invested in Mixcloud, which we think is also news).
“With the introduction of live ticketed streams on Mixcloud, we are combining what was once the three distinct music industries of radio, live concerts, and streaming, into a single digital platform,” said CEO Nico Perez.
Flying Lotus’s ‘Halloween Special’ concert on 31 October shows how the new feature can work. Tickets cost £12, and there will be three broadcasts targeted for prime-time in Tokyo, London and Los Angeles (although they won’t be geo-blocked: ticketholders can watch any of them, wherever they are).
