Defected to hold three-part ‘We Dance As One’ livestream | Music Ally

Dance label Defected Records did a great job earlier this year with its ‘Virtual Festival’ series of livestreams, raising $1.2m for the World Health Organization’s Covid-19 relief fund over 10 weeks.

Now it’s coming back with a new event called ‘We Dance As One‘ spread over three dates: 30 October, 27 November and a finale spanning New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

DJs will be streaming sets from their home studios or from local clubs, with the broadcasts viewable on YouTube, Facebook and Twitch.

Defected is making a point of hiring events staff, videographers and other workers who’ve been hit by the Covid-19 shutdown, and will be promoting their skills during the livestreams.

“We cannot allow our culture to just be dismissed, or abandoned. Defected cannot stand by and let people just give up on nightlife, on clubbing and the extended industries dependent on events,” said MD Wez Saunders.

“We want this to be a calling card for those who have had their jobs and livelihoods taken away. We need to joyously remind people what these artists and DJs are best at, and why this music matters so much to the mental health of so many,” added chief business officer James Kirkham.
