Triller inks strategic alliance with India’s JioSaavn | Music Business Worldwide

Los Angeles-based short-form video sharing app Triller has signed a new strategic partnership with India-born, Reliance-owned music streaming service, JioSaavn.

A press release states that this is “the first of many announcements” to come from the two companies and that the partnership will see Triller embedded into JioSaavn, “front and center”.

When a music video is watched within JioSaavn it will automatically be a Triller music video.

Furthermore, JioSaavn’s streaming app will have a prominent button to “Make a Triller Video” on the main screen of the platform.

This announcement comes on the heels of recent investments from Google and Facebook into JioSaavn’s stakeholder, Reliance.

Triller, which is majority-owned by Ryan Kavanaugh and Bobby Sarnevesht’s Proxima, is also in the process of raising between $200m and $300m to fuel its expansion – having previously secured a roster of investors ranging from Snoop Dogg to Marshmello manager Moe Shalizi.

Today’s news follows the recent announcement that Triller has inked a deal with UK-based B2B digital music company 7digital Group which will see the latter company provide Triller with access to its global catalog of more than 80 million tracks by licensing its API for music sampling and full-length audio streaming.

Triller claims to have had more than 140 million downloads and the app recently hit No.1 on the App store in 50 markets.

In May, JioSaavn claimed to have grown its paying subscriber base 4x from early 2019 and, according to the press statement announcing the partnership with Triller, now has 300 million users.

“Becoming the backbone music video streamer of JioSaavn as well as such a prominent position within its app, is an unparalleled honor.”
