Tour support expert Matt Snowball Music was forced to shut down due to the effects of the lockdown. The company hopes to provide a reduced service from mid August.

For more than 20 years, company founder Matt Snowball and his team had been supporting the live events industry with its range of products and services, which included backline equipment hire and all tings concerning tour transport: self-drive splitter vans, flight case manufacture, musical equipment storage, repairs, other tour supplies and more.

Matt Snowball started the company in Camden, London in 1991. He was working as a touring backline tech, and took the decision to set up his own business supplying backline equipment hire and transport, according to the company profile.

He used his contacts at local rehearsal rooms to rent storage and office space. Business grew, and in 1993 Matt Snowball Music moved a short distance to the 8,000 square foot premises in Brewery Road, where it is located until today. It allowed Snowball to diversify into self-drive splitter van hire and storage cage rental.

At the time Matt Snowball Music announced closure on Aug. 22, the company employed 17 full-time staff members handling "a fleet of self-drive splitters and gear vans, a warehouse crammed with backline rental equipment," offering "years of experience in providing what’s really important – great customer service at a reasonable price," the company profile concludes.

Two days ago, a statement signed by director Matt Snowball, general manager Richard Kiernan and team was published on the company's Facebook profile:

"To all our customers: With live music production coming to a virtual standstill worldwide, the company has made the difficult decision to leave its Brewery Road premises and to close for business.

"We would like to thank all our customers for their support and all our staff past and present for their hard work over the past three decades. It has been a great journey, we have all made some wonderful friends and memories. We will dearly miss the catch-ups with all the extended touring family.

"We all hope to see you again in the future, in some form or other. Until then, good luck and stay safe. Many Thanks, Richard Kiernan (General Manager), Matt Snowball (Director) and all the Snowball team..."

An automated email from Matt Snowball Music states that the company is in the process of relocating premises and hopes to provide a reduced service from mid August. The company's London premises will remain closed until further notice.
