Lollapalooza Hosting Virtual Four-Night ‘Lolla2020’ Festival | Pollstar News

Although COVID-19

put a halt to Lollapalooza’s in-person plans in Chicago

this weekend, festival organizers are taking the party online with “Lolla2020,” a free, four-night virtual festival featuring fan-favorite sets from previous years, brand new live performances, special conversations and more. 


Lolla2020 is set for Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, Aug. 2, airing on YouTube.com/Lollapalooza starting at 5 p.m. CT each night, with a total of more than 150 performances and appearances. 


The schedule will include past Lollapalooza performances from LCD Soundsystem, Metallica, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ellie Goulding, Run The Jewels, Lorde, Alabama Shakes, Tove Lo, along with historic headlining sets from Paul McCartney, Chance The Rapper, OutKast, and Arcade Fire.


Fans will get to enjoy new live performances from Alison Wonderland (Live Set), Carnage, H.E.R., Kali Uchis, Kaskade, Louis the Child, NGHTMRE, Pink Sweat$, SAYMYNAME, Tank and the Bangas, The Neighbourhood, Vic Mensa, Yungblud, ZHU and more. 


Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot will appear throughout the weekend to host conversations with Lollapalooza founder / Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell and LL Cool J. 


Tune in to see Farrell also take part in candid conversations with Lars Ulrich, Chuck D, Matt Pinfield and more. Farrell has loads of special plans lined up for the event including the first Porno for Pyros reunion in 24 years, leading a special King Heaven Orchestra performance featuring Taylor Hawkins, a David Bowie tribute with pianist Mike Garson and more. 


LL Cool J will host four sessions as part of Salesforce’s partnership supporting Lolla2020 with the platform’s Make Change initiative: “The Art of Breaking,” “The Art of MCing,” “The Art of Graffiti & Photography,” and “The Art of DJing. 


Lolla2020 is showing love to local artists with four sets presented in collaboration with the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), which were recorded at neighborhood music venues. This lineup includes Jamila Woods, KAINA, Heavy Steppers with Jamal Smallz, Peter CottonTale, Rebirth Poetry Ensemble, Emon Fowler, Linda Sol, and The Era Footwork Crew. 


Former Lady Michelle Obama will make a special appearance during the event thanks to Lolla2020’s partnership with Obama’s When We All Vote, a non-profit, nonpartisan organization she launched in 2018 to increase participation in every election. Lollapalooza will also continue its mission of inspiring, connecting and uplifting communities by bringing awareness to the Equal Justice Initiative and the Arts for Illinois Relief Fund. Lollapalooza is matching donations made using PayPal between July 27 and Aug. 2 up to $10,000 per organization.

Fans can also support small businesses including local restaurants, photographers and artists impacted by Lollapalooza’s cancellation with the PayPal Loves Chicago hub, offering the chance to purchase art, order food or make a donation by checking out with PayPal. 

The Toyota Music Den is once again helping showcase emerging artists with performances from DaniLeigh, mxmtoon, Masego and Princess Nokia. Toyota is also putting on the he first-ever Mayor of Lolla sweepstakes, including the grand prize package that comes with two platinum tickets to Lollapalooza 2021, flights, hotel suite and a new 2021 Corolla Apex.

Thanks to Lolla2020 partner Red Bull, Selema Masekela’s “What Shapes Us” podcast will air during the festival, featuring special guests Perry Farrell, PineappleCITI and Atiba Jefferson.


Other Lolla2020 partners include Bud Light, Taco Bell, Butterfinger, and BMI.
