Smith has co-written, mixed and produced seven number one singles in the UK and two number one singles in the US, as well as contributing to 18 number one albums.
He is a close collaborator with Chappell songwriters Dave and Stormzy, having produced Dave’s first two EPs, the Ivor Novello-winning song ‘Question Time’ and his Mercury Prize-winning album Psychodrama, as well as Stormzy’s chart-topping and BRIT Award-winning debut album Gang Signs & Prayer.
Smith has also worked with a number of the world’s biggest stars including Adele, Britney Spears, Cee Lo Green, Celine Dion, Drake, Ellie Goulding, Florence + The Machine, Gorillaz, Kano, Keane, Kesha, The Kooks, Lily Allen, Nelly Furtado, Plan B and Sam Smith.
Smith started his career by working with Craig David on his double platinum selling second album Slicker Than Your Average. He then went onto work with Kano on his 2005 breakthrough debut record Home Sweet Home, producing pioneering grime songs Ghetto Kid, Typical Me, Remember Me, Nobody Dance No More and Signs In life.
In 2011, Smith co-wrote and produced Set Fire To The Rain by Adele. The song topped the charts in eight countries, giving Adele her third Billboard number one in the US. It won a BMI London Award and a BMI Pop Award, while the live version went on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance. He was nominated for another Grammy in 2015 thanks to his work on Sam Smith’s album In The Lonely Hour.
Smith teamed up with Kano again to co-write and produce his fifth studio album Made In The Manor. The record received widespread critical acclaim and charted at number eight in the UK. It was shortlisted for the 2016 Mercury Prize, nominated for Best Album at the 2017 BRIT Awards and won Best Album at the MOBO Awards.
