Sony invests $4.5m in sample clearance site Tracklib | Music Ally

Tracklib has been around since 2016, helping artists and producers to find and clear music for sampling. The company has just announced a $4.5m funding round from Sony Innovation Fund – the early-stage investment arm of Sony Music’s parent corporation – and Eelko van Kooten, founder of dance label Spinnin’ Records.

Sony Innovation Fund had already chipped in to a $1.7m funding round for Tracklib in May 2019, so it’s no stranger to the company.

Tracklib says the latest round of investment will be used to expand its available and licensed catalogue as well as to grow its customer base. It currently has a catalogue of 100k+ tracks stretching from 1928 to the present day. The funding also follows last month’s relaunch of Tracklib’s service, with a new user interface and a switch from a la carte pricing to a subscription model.
