‘Nobody’ does it better: DJ Neptune goes viral on Triller | Music Ally

TikTok tends to get the headlines when a music track goes viral through short-form videos. However, rival app Triller has also fuelled its fair share of hits by artists including Lil Tecca, Calboy, K$upreme, Rich The Kid, Darkoo and Chantel Jeffries. Now you can add Nigerian musician DJ Neptune to that list. His track ‘Nobody’, which features Joeboy and Mr Eazi, has taken off partly due to a #nobodychallenge on Triller.

According to the app, there have been more than 186k videos made by Triller users in Africa alone using the track, while globally the total currently stands at nearly 6m videos.

The track was released in March, with the artists involved in challenging fans to record themselves dancing to it as part of the challenge. Triller, like a growing number of other western music-related companies, is keen to position itself as playing an influential role in Africa.

“We’ve got our finger on the pulse of emerging artists and trends in music, with Africa being a current hotbed of musical activity,” said CEO Mike Lu. This isn’t just a Triller thing: you can see #nobodychallenge videos using the track on TikTok and Instagram too (although it’s confused somewhat by a couple of other tracks using the same hashtag for challenges – a hazard of the modern age). Meanwhile, Triller also says it’ll soon cross the 100m downloads milestone.
