Instagram expands eligibility for in-app shops to musicians | Music Ally

Instagram has updated its ‘commerce eligibility requirements’ dictating who’s allowed to use its Instagram Shopping feature to sell products directly from their profiles. Good news: musicians are now included. And candle-makers will be waxing lyrical about the change too…

“Whether you are a candle business making a foray into e-commerce, a musician selling merch or a food blogger expanding into your own cookware line, any eligible business or creator account with at least one eligible product can use shopping tags to drive people to their website to make a purchase,” announced Instagram in a blog post. The change isn’t immediate: it’ll happen on 9 July in the countries where Instagram Shopping is available – there’s a list of those here.

“With this new policy, businesses must tag products on Instagram from a single website that they own and sell from, so that people have a consistent and trusted shopping experience,” added the post.

We’ve been noticing some musicians testing Instagram Shopping already: Spanish artist C. Tangana most recently (tap on that link from your phone and you’ll see his store linked on his profile).
