Music Ally readers may be familiar with Patrick Sullivan, who co-founded video copyright protection company Source3 and sold it to Facebook in 2017. (That team had previously set up RightsFlow and sold it to YouTube in 2011.)
Sullivan’s new venture is Bonsai which is designed to give individuals seeking career advice access to one-to-one video meetings online with key professionals in their sector. The company says it has a heavy focus on music industry professionals seeking advice and career guidance.
“There are major imbalances and inefficiencies associated with how college students and young professionals kick-start their networks and learn from the career experience of others,” says Sullivan.
The platform will match experts in their field with those seeking guidance with those giving the advice being able to manage their own bookings and set the price they want to charge for 30-minute sessions.
The New York-based company has raised $1.5m in pre-seed funding from angel investors. It is already working with young professionals and college students in New York and North Carolina and the company is planning pro bono offerings for those with limited budget so they can attend livestreams of virtual fireside chats with industry executives that will also include interactive Q&As.
