Positive coronavirus-related music industry news | Music Ally

Today, there’s a lot of positive coronavirus-related stories from our industry. Start with European indie body Impala, which has launched a ‘COVID-19 Task Force’ to coordinate the independent sector’s approach across Europe and “to ensure that the music ecosystem is shielded from long term harm and to promote independent music”.

Then see what Rita Ora and Bob Geldof have been up to, designing a ‘Stop the Spread’ logo to put on merch, with proceeds going to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. Then see how fans of artist Frank Turner have chipped in nearly £44k to help support his band and touring crew.

As for livestreams: Universal Music Argentina is launching a daily show; famous Nashville country venue the Grand Ole Opry will be broadcasting every Saturday; Bandsintown has launched its own live-music channel on Twitch; and the UK’s Sound City event is launching a livestreaming platform called Guest House to support artists who’d been due to play.

Licensing platform Songtradr is giving its share of new transactions to its artists, and Decca is launching a Great British Home Chorus to get people singing from self-isolation. Oh, and Robbie Williams is doing Instagram karaoke, while British comedians are playfully poking fun at that celebrity ‘Imagine’ cover doing the rounds on social media. Humans can be excellent still!
