Juice WRLD: BMG, Interscope lead tributes to rapper after he dies aged 21 | Music Business Worldwide

Juice WRLD, aka Jarad Anthony Higgins, died tragically yesterday (December 8) in Chicago following a seizure.

The rapper, aged just 21, had become one of the standout breakthrough artists in the US in the past few years.

Those offering tributes in the wake of his death include both his publisher, BMG, and his record label, Interscope (who issued Juice WRLD’s recordings in tandem with label Grade A).

BMG is the publisher of the entire songwriting catalog of Juice WRLD, including his Platinum-certified debut album Goodbye & Good Riddance, plus his 2019 No.1 follow-up, Death Race For Love.

Said Thomas Scherer, EVP, BMG Los Angeles (pictured with Juice WRLD), “Juice WRLD is one of the most ambitious, dynamic, and prolific artists of his time, with a unique style all his own. Above all, as a person, he was kind, thoughtful, and generous. He had a vibrant soul, an authenticity full of energy, love, curiosity and music.

“We admire him as the person he was, as much as the person he was becoming.”

“We admire him as the person he was, as much as the person he was becoming. What he accomplished and achieved in such a short time, and at such a young age, is nothing short of extraordinary. We are absolutely devastated and mourn the loss of a young bright star gone far too soon.”

“Our utmost heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, fans, Grade A and everyone he touched and inspired around the world. Juice WRLD forever.”

Interscope Geffen A&M Records  shared the following statement: “Juice made a profound impact on the world in such a short period of time. He was a gentle soul, whose creativity knew no bounds, an exceptional human being and artist who loved and cared for his fans above everything else.

Others paying tribute to the artist include Chance The Rapper, Benny Blanco, Lil Nas X, Kehlani and Ellie Goulding.

Drake wrote on Instagram: “I would like to see all the younger talent live longer and I hate waking up hearing another story filled with blessings was cut short.”

Chance The Rapper, writing on Twitter, called Juice WRLD a “young legend”, while Lil Nas X noted that it was “so sad how often this is happening lately to young talented rising artists”.

Ellie Goulding commented: “I can’t believe it… you were such a sweet soul. I’ll always remember meeting you and your family on the video set and thinking how close you were. You had so much further to go, you were just getting started. You’ll be missed Juice.”
