Warner/Chappell signs Melendi, one of Spain’s biggest pop stars | Music Business Worldwide

Multi-platinum selling Spanish singer songwriter Melendi has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Warner/Chappell Music.

The deal covers both his extensive back catalog and new music that he is currently working on.

Melendi has sold more than 4 million records to date and is the most streamed artist ever in Spain on Spotify.

He is also known to millions as a judge on the Spanish and Mexican editions of TV singing competition The Voice.

Ramón Melendi Espina has been writing and recording music for more than 15 years.

His first big breakthrough came in 2004 when national cycle race Vuelta a España adopted his song, Con La Luna Llena, as its official theme tune.

Global success followed in 2006 when he wrote the song Gangs of London, for the PSP game of the same name which he also starred in, which was released worldwide by EMI.

A string of Platinum selling albums also followed, including Curiosa La Cara De Tu Padre (2008), Volvamos A Empezar (2010), Lágrimas Desordenadas (2012), Un Alumno Más (2014), Directo A Septiembre (2015) and Quítate Las Gafas (2016).

His most recent album, Ahora, was released in March 2018 and was also a Platinum hit that topped the Spanish charts.

His latest song, Déjala Que Baile, featuring Alejandro Sanz, was a huge hit in Spain last year, topping the airplay charts and going to No.1.

He is currently working with top producers, including Andrés Torres y Mauricio Rengifo, who co-produced Despacito, and songwriters such as Andrés Saavedra, who has written for Alejandro Sanz and Chayanne, and Andy Clay who has written for Karol G.

His new album is expected to be released this Autumn and he will support it with an international tour.
