Tim Delaney named CEO of UK’s Funnel Music, which he says is ‘levelling the playing field for talent’ | Music Business Worldwide

UK-based Funnel Music has appointed respected industry figure Tim Delaney to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) .

Delaney has over 25 years of experience in the entertainment business, working at record labels including Island, Mercury, RCA, Arista and J Records in the US, UK, Australia and Asia.

He has also held senior roles at Live Nation and with a number of start-ups in the music and ticketing sectors. Most recently, Delaney worked with Maverick as part of U2’s management team.

Delaney will join a board at Funnel that already includes former V2 Records Managing Director David Steele – who is also Director of Artist Management for the company – and Funnel Music COO Joss Yerbury, previously Senior Label Manager at InGrooves.

They are supported by Music Glue Founder Mark Meharry and former President of Sony Music International Rick Dobbis & Joe Romulus, both of whom are based in the US.

Co-founded by music industry veterans Ric Yerbury and Alex Pilkington, Funnel Music works with emerging artists, based around its ‘Shared Outcome Agreement’ model.

“Funnel Music is levelling the playing field for talent and creating real opportunities for long-term success.”

The ‘Shared Outcome Agreement’ sees industry professionals – including PR teams and producers, for example – offer their services to talent for reduced rates. In exchange, these professionals participate in a share of Funnel’s profits made from recording, publishing and ancillaries.

Funnel says that this setup ‘helps reduce costs associated with early stage development without compromising access to quality services, experience and expertise’.

SXSW Interactive 2019 saw Funnel first reveal its digital marketplace, which is designed to expand the model globally.

Tim Delaney said, “I have always been drawn to companies who strive to apply new ways of thinking to the music business. Artists have long faced unnecessary barriers to entry through lack of access to experience and expertise.

“By offering industry professionals the opportunity to be part of sustainable artist careers and incentivising them to participate in early stage development, Funnel Music is levelling the playing field for talent and creating real opportunities for long-term success.”

Ric Yerbury, co-founder and Executive Chairman of Funnel Music said, “Tim Delaney is an internationally respected industry executive who has worked at the most senior level at some of the most high-profile music companies and with some of the biggest artists in the world.

“He has wide-ranging experience across both music and technology, most recently helping new companies grow their offerings. He brings valuable insight and leadership to businesses such as our who are developing new ways to approach the artist/industry/fan dynamic.”Music Business Worldwide
