AWAL hires Michael Pukownik from Warner Bros. as SVP, Head of Artist Marketing for North America | Music Business Worldwide

Kobalt has made a key hire for its recordings company AWAL in Michael Pukownik, who joins from Warner Bros. Records as Senior Vice President, Head of Artist Marketing for North America.

Based in Los Angeles, Pukownik will oversee artist marketing campaigns for the AWAL roster whilst driving digital marketing strategy.

His appointment is further evidence of Kobalt’s investment in AWAL, which has been newly relaunched this year with $150m in funding.

Part of that cash was recently used to acquire multi-format radio promotion specialist, in2une Music.

Pukownik joins AWAL with more than 18 years of music industry and marketing experience.

Most recently, he spent three years as Vice President of Marketing at Warner Bros. Records, where he ran successful campaigns for artists including Gorillaz, and developed new acts like The Shelters.

Prior to that, Pukownik spent 10 years at EMI/UMG/Capitol Records where he started as a Program Manager before transitioning to more artist-focused roles within EMI.

“We are at a critical moment of growth at AWAL and investing in talented leaders is of the utmost importance as we continue to  deliver the best option for independent artists.”
