Oliver Schusser named global head of Apple Music | Music Business Worldwide

Apple Music has a new global boss.

Oliver Schusser has been named head of Apple Music Worldwide, moving up from his London-based role as VP of Apple Music & International Content.

Schusser, who recently played a key role in Apple’s recent $400m acquisition of Shazam – which is currently awaiting regulatory approval – will relocate from the UK to California for the new position.

According to Variety, the news was confirmed earlier today (April 11) in an internal memo from Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue – to whom Schusser will report in his new role.

Schusser will divide his time between Apple Park in Cupertino and Apple’s offices in Culver City, while continuing to lead international teams in 38 markets.

Eddy Cue’s memo also confirms that Apple Music has now surpassed 40m paying subscribers worldwide.

That confirmation backs up MBW’s analysis from earlier this week, which showed that Apple Music is currently outpacing Spotify in terms of global subscriber additions.

Spotify, however, remains far out in front, with around 75m subscribers around the globe.

Marketing executive Tracey Hannelly will rise to lead International for Apple Music in the wake of Schusser’s promotion.Music Business Worldwide
