Another top exec out at Sony Germany as Willy Ehmann exits | Music Business Worldwide

There’s another big change at Sony Music in Germany with long-serving exec Willy Ehmann leaving the label after 16 years.

Ehmann was most recently Senior Vice President Music Domestic for Germany, Switzerland and Austria, working on the company’s local repertoire and classics division.

He joined Sony Music in 2002 as Managing Director of International Marketing, going on to hold various executive positions.

His departure follows that of SVP of International Stefan Goebel and CEO of GSA Philip Ginthör, who was replaced by Patrick Mushatsi-Kareba.

Ehmann was responsible for signing acts including LaBrassBanda, Johannes Oerding, Moses Pelham, Jean-Michel Jarre, Michael Patrick Kelly and James Arthur.

He also worked with Bushido, Alice Merton, 23 (Sido/Bushido), Savas, The Hives, Alanis Morissette, Asaf Avidan & The Mojos and Joe Cocker.

“Willy Ehmann achieved much acclaimed success for Sony Music and earned great respect from artists, colleagues, and throughout the industry.

“I thank him sincerely for his great dedication and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Mushatsi-Kareba said: “Willy Ehmann achieved much acclaimed success for Sony Music and earned great respect from artists, colleagues, and throughout the industry.

“I thank him sincerely for his great dedication and I wish him all the best for the future.”

In January, Germany-based exec Daniel Lieberberg was named President, Continental Europe and Africa, Sony Music Entertainment.

Sony’s ex-US/UK structure has been re-calibrated by Rob Stringer, following the departure of the major’s International CEO/Chairman, London-based Edgar Berger in January last year.
