BMG signs worldwide publishing deal with Giggs | Music Business Worldwide

BMG has signed an exclusive worldwide publishing agreement with British hip-hop pioneer Giggs – just as his mixtape Wamp 2 Dem lands at No.2 on the Official UK Album Chart.

The deal includes rights to Giggs’s previous album Landlord, also a No.2 hit, as well as future work.

Giggs has been a leading figure of the UK urban music scene since his acclaimed 2008 debut Walk in da Park.

In recent years, his work has been embraced by major North American stars such as Drake.

Giggs collaborated with Drake across two tracks on the Canadian megastar’s recent No.1 ‘playlist’, More Life: No Long Talk and KMT, which has now attracted more than 45m streams on Spotify.

“The first meeting with Giggs was one of most memorable of my career. What he does, he does so well – and he has been doing it for a long time.”

Wamp 2 Dem has been released on Giggs’s own label, No Bs Music, in partnership with Universal Music.

It includes contributions from 2 Chainz, Popcaan, Donae’o, Lil Duke & Young Thug and Dave.

At one point last week, it was streaming, on average, 1m times a day on Spotify in the UK alone.

BMG UK President Repertoire & Marketing Alexi Cory-Smith said, “The first meeting with Giggs was one of most memorable of my career. What he does, he does so well – and he has been doing it for a long time.

“He has more than earned to be where he is, and where he is going – just watch his Spotify numbers – and we are really pleased to join his team and start supporting him.”

Giggs’s biggest tracks on Spotify include Lock Doh, which has racked up more than 23m streams on the platform.Music Business Worldwide
