Spotify hires IFPI veteran Olivia Regnier as Legal Director, EU Regulatory Affairs | Music Business Worldwide

Spotify has hired the Director of IFPI’s European Regional Office, Olivia Regnier, as Legal Director, EU Regulatory Affairs.

Regnier leaves behind 20 years at the recorded music trade body.

Since joining IFPI in 1996, she has worked on a raft of critically important issues for the music industry, including copyright legislation, formation of European e-Commerce laws, modernisation of licensing and enforcement.

Regnier has recently helped direct campaigning around the so-called value gap that exists as a result of the high number of music consumers using services such as YouTube, that return what is deemed as pitiful remuneration to the industry.

She joins Spotify from May 8th.

IFPI Chief Executive Officer Frances Moore said: “It has been a really enjoyable adventure working with Olivia.

“Olivia has an enormous knowledge of the EU and its legislative environment and has built an extensive network of contacts at all levels. We will miss her tremendously.”

“She has an enormous knowledge of the EU and its legislative environment and has built an extensive network of contacts at all levels.

“We will miss her tremendously, but find consolation in the fact that she is remaining in the music sector in some form. I wish her every success in her new role.”

Regnier commented: “I have enjoyed working with the music industry from day one.

“During my 20 years at IFPI, I have witnessed major changes as the industry has moved from the CD era to the digital present.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my career within this continuously developing sector as I pursue this new and exciting opportunity.”
