Global Citizen and Spotify enlist artists for US vote campaigns | Music Ally

With less than two months to go to the US presidential election, efforts to encourage people to vote are heating up. Musicians – and now even music streaming services – are playing a prominent role.

Global Citizen, which was at the forefront of music-related Covid-19 relief efforts earlier this year, has turned its attention to the US election, in partnership with a voter registration organisation called HeadCount. They’re focusing on young Americans, in the hopes of reaching one million of them, including getting 50,000 to register. Billie Eilish, DJ Khaled, Nicky Jam, Taylor Swift and Usher are some of the artists already enlisted for the campaign.

Meanwhile, Spotify has launched its own ‘Play Your Part‘ campaign to encourage voting – and here too, an emphasis on first-time voters. HeadCount is a partner alongside TurboVote and BallotReady; artists including Conan Gray, Alaina Castillo, King Princess and Chloe x Halle are on board; and there’ll be playlists, podcasts and other information in a new ‘Voter’s Booth hub‘ on Spotify.
