UMG and WMG reveal latest deals in high-potential markets | Music Ally

Major music companies are continuing to press on with their partnerships in high-potential territories like India, Africa and China. Yesterday brought three such deals.

Warner Music Group is allying with Ziiki Media, an Indian music company that specialises in Punjabi music. Ziiki will license its catalogue to WMG’s ADA distribution arm, and also to its new Warner Music India subsidiary.

Universal Music Group, meanwhile, has announced a strategic partnership with Nigerian music company The Aristokrat Group, which discovered and developed Burna Boy among other artists. This deal is both a label and publishing deal, the latter via Universal Music Publishing Group, with Kel P, Jujuboy Star and Tneeya the first three artists to be signed through the agreement.

Finally, and solely on the publishing side, Warner Chappell Music has inked a deal with Chinese streaming service NetEase Cloud Music. It’ll make the publisher’s catalogue (including lyrics) available to the service, but will also see the companies “work together in areas from online karaoke to IP development”.
