Spotify CEO: ‘Long term, we do expect Apple to open up’ | Music Ally

It’s all gone a bit quiet on the antitrust complaint front regarding Spotify versus Apple.

Spotify filed a complaint in Europe against Apple more than a year ago, sparking a sharp rebuttal from the tech giant. We’re still waiting to see what action, if any, the European Commission takes over the complaint. However, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has been talking to Bloomberg TV about the dispute, expressing the view that “long term, we do expect Apple to open up”. It has already opened up in some ways: for example by giving non-Apple music streaming services more access to its Siri voice assistant. “It’s moving in the right direction, but we still have many, many steps to go,” said Ek, referring to a future time where Spotify will rate Apple as “an open and fair platform”. There’s more collaboration, then, but these two companies won’t be losing their ‘frenemy’ status any time soon, it seems.
