#saveourvenues campaign takes 140 venues off ‘critical’ list | Music Ally

Here’s some good news from the Covid-19 music relief front line: 140 grassroots venues in the UK have been removed from the ‘critical’ list compiled by the Music Venue Trust’s #saveourvenues campaign three weeks ago.

The campaign has raised more than £1.5m in donations so far, having identified 556 venues that were in danger of permanent closure due to the economic impact of the coronavirus lockdown.

More than 150 livestreamed / virtual events have taken place in support of the campaign already, helping 140 of those venues to be taken off the immediate-danger list. Not that the Trust is counting any chickens just yet.

“We are not complacent as this is only a relatively short-term fix. Whilst the immediate threat of closure for these venues has been halted they are still under real threat in the coming months as are over 400 others,” said CEO Mark Davyd. “We cannot relax as we still have a mountain to climb to secure the long-term future of this sector.” The Trust is hoping that more music industry companies will join the campaign – including giving donations.
