Today’s positive coronavirus-related industry news (2 April) | Music Ally

A collective of music industry bodies in the US has come together to create the Music Covid Relief website, providing information for music professionals to receive benefits (both individual and for small businesses) implemented by the recently-signed CARES Act.

Also in the US, event production company Encore Live has teamed up with country star Garth Brooks to launch a fundraising campaign called #MusicMatters, starting with an auction of celebrity items and a virtual tip jar. We wrote about the auction last week, but the website is live too for more information.

A grassroots campaign worth checking out is the Washington Nightlife & Music Association (WANMA for short) which has published a five-step plan to help Seattle venues facing financial ruin. It could be useful inspiration for similar campaigns in music cities around the world.

Meanwhile, the latest artist stepping up to the plate with their own money is Dolly Parton, who is donating $1m to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to fund its research into coronavirus. If you need a reason to smile this morning, note that when Parton announced this on Twitter, the top reply to her tweet was “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine vacciiiiiiiiiiine”
