Indian company Shemaroo Entertainment has signed a licensing deal with Spotify, further bolstering the streaming service’s catalogue of Indian music.
The deal will add more than 25k tracks to Spotify’s catalogue, just over a year after it launched in India. It’s part of a wider streaming push for Shemaroo, which last month signed a licensing deal with Bytedance’s new Resso streaming service too. As we noted at the time, Shemaroo has also been growing on YouTube, with its flagship YouTube channel now up to 34.6 million subscribers.
According to industry site Radio and Music, that makes Shemaroo the fourth biggest in India – although it’s still some way behind the top channel from T-Series, which now has 136 million subscribers.
