Roblox to stream One World: Together at Home concert in-game | Music Ally

The list of services that will be streaming tomorrow’s One World: Together at Home benefit concert for Covid-19 relief is lengthy, taking in Apple, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, MTV, Roku, BBC Music, the Guardian, Alibaba and iHeartRadio among others. One of the most interesting names on the list, though, is Roblox. Often described as ‘the YouTube of games’, it’s the platform where more than 115 million monthly active users create and play one another’s games, and it’s particularly popular with children.

Roblox is opening a “virtual concert venue” later today (12pm PDT) for players to “get a head-start on finding in-game collectibles and completing quests” based on the event, before streaming it there tomorrow. Roblox has also created free virtual items – a cap, headphones, sunglasses and a rucksack – for players’ avatars to wear and show their support.

We’ve been quite sceptical about some of the hype around VR concerts, but concerts streamed within large-scale games and gaming platforms like Roblox and Fortnite is a trend with promise.
