Grimes and WeTransfer want creatives to rework her new video | Music Ally

Artist Grimes has just released the video for her new track ‘You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around’, which sees her performing the song against a green-screen background. That design decision was actually part of a partnership with internet firm WeTransfer, with the goal being to encourage creatives (and fans) to take the raw footage from the video and remix it in interesting ways. To help them, WeTransfer has made a ‘Grimes Art Kit’ available, with links to the raw footage, as well as cover art, audio files and lyrics.

People are told to remix the video and then upload their version to YouTube including the song’s title in the video title, and the hashtag #GrimesArtKit – thus enabling these uploads to be “automatically approved”. They’re also encouraged to share the videos on Twitter and Instagram while tagging Grimes in, so she can share her favourites. “Because we’re all in lockdown we thought if people are bored and wanna learn new things, we could release the raw components of a music video for anyone who wants to try making stuff using our footage,” said Grimes in a statement.
