Apple’s Beats headphones brand will soon have a new boss.
Oliver Schusser, Head of Apple Music worldwide, will take over at the end of the month when current President Luke Wood steps down, having worked at the company since 2011.
Launched in 2008 by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, Beats Electronics was acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion.
Schusser, who was promoted to Vice President of Apple Music & International Content in 2018, will take on responsibility for the Beats business alongside his existing role.
The news of Wood’s departure was first reported by CNET, which revealed that Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddie Cue told employees about the leadership change in a recent email.
Writing in the internal memo, according to CNET’s report, Cue said: “In the last year, Luke Wood told me about his desire to do something new. I appreciated the heads up so that it allowed us to plan for this transition.”
“Since taking on the Apple Music business a little over a year ago, Apple Music has achieved steady growth under Oliver’s leadership.”

Cue also used the note to praise Schusser’s track record at Apple Music, writing: “Since taking on the Apple Music business a little over a year ago, Apple Music has achieved steady growth under Oliver’s leadership.
