TikTok was downloaded 113m times in February says Sensor Tower | Music Ally

App analytics firm Sensor Tower has published its latest estimates for TikTok’s popularity. The company reckons that the app had its best month ever in terms of downloads and revenues in February 2020. In fact, TikTok was the most-downloaded non-game app in the world last month, with its 113m App Store and Google Play downloads representing 96% growth year-on-year.

Regular readers will be able to guess which country accounted for the most TikTok downloads in February: India. In fact, the 46.6m downloads there were 41.3% of TikTok’s new installs globally, followed by Brazil (9.7m) and the US (6.4m).

As for the business: “TikTok also saw its highest-ever monthly user spending in February, with the $50.4 million it generated equalling a 784.2 percent Y/Y increase,” claimed Sensor Tower. “This made it the third highest-grossing non-game app worldwide for the month behind Tinder and YouTube.”

China accounted for 91% of those revenues though: according to these estimates, TikTok only made $3m from user spending in the US last month, and $216k in its third most-lucrative market, the UK. Note that ‘user-spending’ term: Sensor Tower is measuring in-app purchases by TikTok users, NOT advertising revenues.
