‘TikTok for musicians’ Jamiphy joins Y Combinator accelerator | Music Ally

We wrote about startup Jamiphy in August 2019 after we spotted its profile pop up on an investment website. It was billing itself as ‘TikTok for Musicians’ – an app where artists could “create short musical videos with others, and with AI musicians using any instrument or style”. The company has since launched its app in Indonesia, and now it’ll be getting some experienced help to build its business.

Jamiphy has joined well-known Silicon Valley accelerator Y Combinator’s ‘Winter 2020’ cohort. The company streamed its ‘demo day’ for its new startups online, but for investors only. TechCrunch was taking notes. “With the shutdown of live events all over the world, the startup certainly has a potential market, providing musicians a place to host short music videos live,” it suggested.

For now, there’s little information available on how the service will work for musicians in terms of making money: a tips economy model may be the most logical approach though.
