SoundCloud Go+, the streaming service’s subscription tier for listeners, has expanded into four new markets – Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. They’ll now get access to its full catalogue of more than 200m tracks and DJ sets, with features including no ads, offline play and better audio quality. It’ll cost 99 kr a month in Denmark, €9.99 a month in Finland, 109 kr a month in Norway and 99 kr a month in Sweden, with people signing up via Apple’s iOS in-app subscriptions paying a bit more, as in other markets. A half-price student subscription is also available.
SoundCloud Go+ is now available in 19 countries, with SoundCloud having originally launched its subscription tier as ‘SoundCloud Go’ in March 2016. In February 2017, ‘Go’ became a mid-tier $4.99-a-month subscription, with the $9.99-a-month tier becoming ‘Go+’.
How are these subscriptions doing though? SoundCloud hasn’t published any figures for the number of subscribers, and in its last financial results, for 2018, the company only provided figures for its overall subscription revenues (€83.2m – 77% of its total) – and that figure included both creator subscriptions and listener subscriptions. Music Ally checked in with Midia Research, which has been tracking DSP market shares, and it told us that its latest estimate for SoundCloud (from the end of Q2 2019) was 1.7 million SoundCloud subscribers on the consumer side.
