Out Today by The Orchard: The Chats, Vanessa Carlton, & More!

By Cynthia Timoteo March 27, 2020

The end of another week is near and we can’t wait to share new music with you. While we are all trying to stay safe inside this month, our favorite artists are doing their best to make the time fly. This week we highlight releases from Australian punk rock band The Chats, singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton, and rapper Joyner Lucas. Let these new albums take you away from your home (metaphorically, of course) and into your own safe space.

The Chats – High Risk Behaviour (Bargain Bin Records)

Call it what you want — pub-punk, shed-rock, garage rock, surf punk — but one thing is clear: The Chats are disrupting everything we thought we knew about punk rock music. The band is comprised of bassist and vocalist Eamon Sandwith, drummer Matt Boggis, and guitarist Josh Price. The young Australian punk rockers began playing together in high school, releasing their first EP a month before graduating in 2016. Since the commencement of the band, The Chats have become known for their chaotic live shows and unwavering energy. The band’s new album High Risk Behaviour brings that chaotic energy into a studio recording, while combining candid stories with relatable Australian references. The album is a light-hearted breath of fresh air, enabling fans to turn up and let loose. Get out of your head and into High Risk Behaviour, out now.

Vanessa Carlton – Love is an Art (Dine Alone Music)

Nashville transplant Vanessa Carlton has cemented her nearly two-decade-long career as a singer/songwriter and Broadway star. Releasing her first album since 2015, Carlton has found a new voice and sound, and has brought it together to create something we have never heard from her before. The introspective album Love is an Art ventures into Carlton’s journey, all the way from her debut to where she is today. In the album, the singer/songwriter experiments sonically, bringing more electronic and avant-garde elements to her music. Lyrically, Carlton threads in emotional themes and heavy topics that, when combined with the sonic undertones, create musical healing. Love is an Art is sure to turn heads and transform curious listeners into fans.

Joyner Lucas – ADHD (Joyner Lucas)

Joyner Lucas’ highly anticipated independent-debut is finally here! The Worcester, Massachusetts-born rapper is known for his storytelling, lyrical masterpieces, and collaborations with the biggest names in hip-hop including Chris Brown and Eminem. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his full collection of tracks since powerful singles have been teased out sparking excitement over the past year. Today they realize, the wait was worth it. From tracks like “Will,” that pay homage to Joyner’s inspiration Will Smith, to “Lotto” that speaks to his successes in the industry, ADHD covers topics that are entirely authentic to the rapper’s story. Joyner expresses his struggle with ADHD, the album’s namesake, and how he embraces it and as part of his identity. The album alsofeatures collaborations with Young Thug and Fabolous, among many others on the eighteen-track project. Lose yourself in Joyner Lucas’ poetry in ADHD, out now.
